Is leukemia hereditary?

There are many types of diseases. When it comes to disease treatment, the choice of methods is very important. Different diseases have great differences in symptoms, causes, and factors. Therefore, before treating a disease, you need to have a good understanding of these issues so that the treatment can be carried out correctly. Is leukemia hereditary? Leukemia is a disease that causes great harm to human health.

When you find out that you have leukemia, you must receive timely treatment, otherwise the disease will continue to develop, which will make your health and future disease treatment very complicated. Is leukemia hereditary? This is something that many people don't understand.

Is leukemia hereditary?

According to surveys, leukemia is generally not hereditary. It is usually believed that leukemia patients only inherit the susceptibility to leukemia, not leukemia itself. However, we cannot rule out a certain genetic tendency. For example, there may be more than two leukemia patients in a family. There are also reports that the chance of both monozygotic twins suffering from leukemia is 20%, which is 12 times higher than the incidence rate of dizygotic twins. However, this phenomenon is not universal and there is no definite pattern. Therefore, it is difficult to say that leukemia is definitely hereditary.

However, it should be said that not all leukemias have a genetic tendency, but clinically it is true that some leukemias are more likely to occur in a certain type (such as Caucasians), certain genetic defects (such as Down's syndrome) and certain familial diseases (such as Fanconi anemia). Among identical twins, if one suffers from acute leukemia, the probability of the other suffering from acute leukemia (25%) is significantly higher than that of ordinary people (5/100,000). All of the above suggest that certain genetic factors may affect the incidence of leukemia. If these factors are not involved, leukemia generally will not be inherited.

The exact cause of leukemia, like other tumors, remains uncertain. But it is generally believed to be related to genetic factors, environmental factors and viral infection.

Through the above introduction, we have a good understanding of whether leukemia is hereditary. This type of disease also takes some time to treat, and when treating this type of disease, the patient also needs to actively cooperate, which will be of great help to the improvement of the patient's disease and prevent the disease from continuing to develop.
