Type of virus

Type of virus

Viruses have a very long history and they have the characteristics of life. When it comes to viruses, everyone should keep a distance from them and be afraid of being infected by some viruses. There are really many types of viruses. Some viruses are very harmful to us humans, especially some viruses are still contagious. Some viruses can cause cancer, such as rabbit fibroma virus and papillomavirus. Let us learn about some types of viruses below.

There are many types of viruses, and all of them are very harmful to our health. In particular, some viruses can cause malignant tumors, such as nasopharyngeal cancer and lymphoma. Common liver cancer is closely related to the hepatitis B virus.

Tumorigenic effect

Some viruses can induce benign tumors, such as the rabbit fibroma virus of the Poxviridae family, human molluscum contagiosum virus, and papillomavirus of the Papovaviridae family; others can induce malignant tumors, which can be divided into DNA tumor viruses and RNA tumor viruses according to the type of their nucleic acid. DNA tumor viruses include SV40 and polyomavirus of the papovavirus family, as well as certain members of the adenoviridae and herpesviridae families. Viral nucleic acids or their fragments and virus-encoded proteins can be detected in tumor cells, but generally there are no complete virus particles. RNA tumor viruses all belong to the Retroviridae family, including chicken and mouse leukemia and sarcoma viruses, and virus particles can be detected in tumor cells. Both types of viruses can transform cells in vitro. In human tumors, EB virus has been shown to be closely related to Burkitt's lymphoma and nasopharyngeal carcinoma; recently, a retrovirus was found from a T-cell leukemia. In addition, herpes simplex virus type 2 may be related to the cause of cervical cancer, and hepatitis B virus may be related to the cause of liver cancer. However, viruses are probably not the only cause, and environmental and genetic factors may play a synergistic role.

According to the objects of infection, they are divided into animal viruses, plant viruses, bacterial viruses, insect viruses and fungal viruses. In addition, there are viroids, virusoids and prions. 2 According to the genetic material, it is divided into two categories: DNA virus and RNA virus. Its genetic material is single strand or double strand, nucleic acid molecular weight, RNA is sense or antisense...

1. By infected object

Animal viruses, plant viruses, bacterial viruses, insect viruses and fungal viruses, as well as viroids, virusoids and prions.

2. Classification by genetic material

There are two major categories of DNA viruses and RNA viruses. The main classification criteria are whether their genetic material is single strand or double strand, the molecular weight of the nucleic acid, and whether the RNA is sense or antisense RNA.

3. Classification by genetic structure

Bacteriophage, abbreviated as phage, is a general term for viruses that parasitize bacteria.

Now we should have some understanding of the types of viruses. Once a virus appears, it will pose a particularly great threat to our health. Many serious diseases are caused by some viruses. Once a virus appears, it can mutate and evolve continuously. Once infected with a virus, you must seek treatment in time to avoid more serious harm.
