The formation of myopia

The formation of myopia

With the continuous development of modern science and technology, mobile phones, computers, televisions, etc. have become indispensable items in people's lives. Many people, especially primary and secondary school students, have low self-control and are addicted to watching TV series and playing games on mobile phones, computers, televisions, etc. for a long time. They also do not know how to rest their eyes, which makes the vision of young people today continue to decline and the myopia rate is also constantly increasing.

In fact, the reasons for the increasing myopia rate include not only playing with mobile phones and computers, but also many other reasons. For example, dietary nutrition, genetic factors, etc. can all cause myopia in humans. Below, let us take a detailed look at the causes of myopia.

1. Environmental factors

1. Working at close range

A large number of epidemiological studies have shown that near visual load is the most important cause of simplicity. Near visual load includes using the eyes too closely and looking at near objects for too long. Close work is one of the causes of myopia.

The study found that students who spent more time reading had a higher prevalence of myopia than students who spent less time reading. The more time you spend reading and working at close range, the faster your myopia progresses; the closer the reading distance, the faster your myopia progresses.

2. Nutrition and diet

Diet plays an important role in the development of the body. Many people believe that malnutrition is one of the causes of myopia. Malnourished infants and young children may experience emmetropization prematurely, making them more likely to develop myopia. Studies have shown that vegetarians have a high prevalence of myopia. Studies in recent years have shown that high sugar, high protein and lack of certain trace factors may be related to the formation of myopia. Other studies have found that children who develop myopia have significantly lower energy intake, protein, fat, vitamins B1, B2 and C, phosphorus, iron and cholesterol than children who do not develop myopia.

3. Regional differences and socioeconomic factors

The prevalence of myopia in cities is significantly higher than in rural areas, and this phenomenon becomes more obvious with age. Rural life is closer to nature and the air is fresher. This is related to their living standards, living environment and dietary nutrition. Furthermore, rural students have fewer opportunities to watch TV and use computers.

4. Lighting and reading posture

Studies on the effects of light on the human eye are inconsistent. Shanghai once observed the changes in vision of students from 10 key middle schools after using desk lamps, pointing out that poor local lighting methods seriously affect vision. The greater the brightness contrast between the environment and the work surface, the more likely it is to cause visual fatigue. Incandescent lamps have a greater impact on vision than fluorescent lamps.

Causes of myopia: genetic factors

Myopia is a type of eye disease that is related to genetics. Research on the inheritance of myopia began very early, and there are many theories. Such as recessive inheritance and multifactorial inheritance; low myopia is multifactorial inheritance, high myopia is unifactorial inheritance; simple myopia and a few pathological myopia are autosomal dominant inheritance, and most pathological myopia is recessive inheritance.

Causes of myopia: three eye factors

1. Visual deprivation

Congenital cataracts, ptosis, corneal lesions, posterior lens fibrosis, optic neuropathy, etc. can all induce myopia, which is called "visual deprivation myopia".

2. Corneal abnormalities

There is a clear relationship between corneal abnormalities and myopia. Corneal opacity associated with myopia is a common phenomenon, mainly seen in people who develop the disease at an early age, and often manifests as high myopia.

3. Retinopathy

The reason why most people with retinitis pigmentosa are myopic is unknown.

4. Intraocular pressure

Intraocular pressure is a necessary condition to ensure the shape of the eyeball and maintain the normal function of the human eye. It affects the axial length of the eyeball during its growth, that is, there is a certain connection between myopia and glaucoma.

5. Accommodation and Convergence

When using the eyes for a long time at close range, in order to see objects clearly, the adjustment is constantly strengthened, the ciliary muscles continue to contract, causing tension or spasm and causing myopia.

The above are the causes of myopia. We can see that in addition to bad eye habits, there are many other causes of myopia. Therefore, we need to pay attention to maintaining our eyes in our daily lives. We need to take a rest when our eyes are tired. If we find any discomfort in our eyes, we need to go to the hospital for examination and treatment immediately.
