Although the risk of breast fibroadenomas becoming cancerous is very low, doctors usually recommend surgical removal for women over 35 years old. The purpose of surgery is to remove the lesion and to send it for pathological examination to confirm the diagnosis and avoid delaying the disease.

This is because with the increase in work pressure, changes in diet and living habits, and environmental influences, the incidence of breast cancer in women over 35 years old in China has increased significantly. Breast cancer often presents as a painless lump clinically, and cannot be 100% differentiated from breast fibroadenoma simply by clinical examination and related examinations. In particular, when breast fibroadenoma is combined with canceration, its ultrasound or mammography X-ray manifestations are non-specific, and a pathological examination is often required for a definitive diagnosis.

For patients under 35 years old who are highly suspected of having fibroadenoma, experts remind them to pay attention to various examinations, including physical examination, B-ultrasound, and needle aspiration cytology to assist in diagnosis when necessary. However, for those who are overly nervous and whose anxiety cannot be relieved after repeated explanations, or those who are planning to become pregnant recently and whose tumor has grown significantly in recent times, whose tumor diameter is greater than 2 cm, and whose color B-ultrasound shows that the tumor has abundant blood supply, surgical treatment should be considered. The remaining patients can be followed up clinically, and surgery will be required if the tumor continues to grow to a certain extent.

Although breast fibroadenoma surgery is a relatively good method to treat the disease, breast fibroadenoma can easily recur if post-operative care is not done properly. Therefore, it is recommended that patients must pay attention to the condition of the wound after surgery and be careful not to eat overly spicy and irritating foods.
