The virus enters its active period in spring, and "getting angry" is also contagious

In spring, when the weather is warm and flowers are blooming, it is also the season when various viruses and bacteria are active. Many people had anger on their lips. What many people don’t know is that anger is actually contagious.

Mr. Jiang found that the mouths of his family of three all started to get "inflamed" at the same time, with red spots and blisters appearing on their lips, which felt stinging, itchy, and burning. Mr. Jiang brought his family to the Dermatology Department of Jiangsu Provincial People's Hospital to consult about their condition. Hou Maihua, deputy chief physician of the Dermatology Department, explained that the so-called "fire" on Mr. Jiang's family's mouth is a kind of herpes called "herpes simplex", an acute skin disease caused by the herpes simplex virus, which often occurs due to excessive fatigue and other reasons, leading to a decrease in immunity. "Herpes simplex" often occurs at the junction of the skin and mucous membranes, and is most common at the edges of the lips, corners of the mouth, and around the nostrils. Initially, the local skin will feel itchy, burning or stinging, followed by congestion and redness, and later clusters of blisters the size of needle tips or rice grains will appear with a slightly red base. The blisters do not merge with each other, but multiple clusters of blisters may appear at the same time. The blister wall is thin and the blister fluid is clear. It will spontaneously rupture, erode, and exude fluid in a short period of time, and then dry and form a scab after 2 to 10 days. No scars will be left after the scab falls off.

Deputy Chief Physician Hou Maihua told reporters that the fact that Mr. Jiang's family all got "inflamed" almost at the same time was related to the infectiousness of the herpes virus. The virus exists in the blister fluid, saliva and feces of patients, those in recovery or healthy carriers. It is mainly transmitted through direct contact, but can also be indirectly transmitted through tableware contaminated with saliva. The virus enters the body through the respiratory tract, oral cavity, genital mucosa and broken skin, and resides in the normal mucosa, blood, saliva and sensory ganglion cells of the human body. It repeatedly attacks at the junction of the mucosa, so the location of the attack is relatively fixed.

If someone in the family has a "hot temper", it is best for the patient to use public chopsticks to avoid infection. You can also take some acyclovir drugs orally, or apply acyclovir ointment to the affected area to relieve symptoms. Most cases will heal naturally after 7-10 days. However, when the patient's immune function is low, the same area will become "inflamed" again.

Hou Maihua also reminded that there are more and more patients suffering from "chapped corners of the mouth" recently, and many people regard it as another form of "getting angry". In fact, patients with symptoms such as chapped and eroded corners of the mouth are all suffering from "angular cheilitis". Allergies or riboflavin (vitamin B2) deficiency are both causes of angular cheilitis. Patients can take appropriate amounts of vitamins and apply erythromycin eye ointment to the affected area. To prevent the occurrence of angular cheilitis in children, children should have a balanced diet and eat more vegetables. In addition, when the corners of your mouth are uncomfortable, avoid licking them with your tongue to prevent them from becoming drier and more prone to cracking and bleeding.
