What is the cause of dizziness caused by cervical spondylosis

Cervical spondylosis is a common disease in clinical practice. Many people suffer from this disease. Generally speaking, if cervical spondylosis is accompanied by symptoms of dizziness, this may be vertebral artery type cervical spondylosis. When carotid artery type cervical spondylosis is diseased, symptoms of dizziness or headache may occur.

1. Dizziness is a common symptom in patients with vertebral artery type cervical spondylosis. Vertigo symptoms are induced by changes in patient position due to extension or rotation of the neck. Vertigo caused by ischemic lesions of the vestibular nerve nucleus generally lasts for a short time, disappearing within seconds to minutes. When the disease occurs, the patient may have mild absence and movement disorders, manifested as unsteady walking or leaning to one side. Vertigo caused by ischemic lesions of the labyrinth is not accompanied by impaired consciousness.

2. Vertigo caused by vestibular neuropathy is a central vertigo; vertigo caused by labyrinthine ischemic lesions is a peripheral vertigo. Some patients feel nauseous and cannot raise their heads during acute onset. A few patients have symptoms such as double vision, eye tremors, tinnitus and deafness.

3. Because cervical spondylosis involves the neck muscles, it causes persistent spasm and contraction of the neck muscles, leading to muscle blood circulation disorders, which can release inflammatory pathogenic substances such as lactic acid, 5-hydroxytryptamine, and bradykinin, causing dizziness.

4. The lesions stimulate, compress or damage the first, second and third cervical nerves and cause headaches, especially in the occipital region. The pain may also radiate to the head through the reflex action of the trigeminal nucleus of the medulla oblongata or spinal cord.

5. Patients with vertebral artery type cervical spondylosis experience dizziness because the lesions directly affect the vertebral artery, resulting in insufficient blood supply to the vertebral-basilar artery system.
