Chemotherapy for male breast cancer

Chemotherapy for male breast cancer

Treatment for male breast cancer depends largely on how widespread the cancer is, with possible treatments including surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. If the cancer is confined to the chest and has not spread, it may be completely cured with radical surgery to remove it. If the cancer has spread to other parts of the body, it may not be completely cured, but active treatment can help alleviate symptoms and control the progression of the cancer.

Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy is a treatment method that uses anti-cancer drugs to kill tumor cells. For breast cancer, chemotherapy can be used to prevent cancer recurrence after surgery, slow the spread of tumors and relieve symptoms. The basic treatment process is divided into 6 treatment courses, each of which is several weeks apart, mainly through intravenous administration, and each treatment course usually lasts for several hours.

Adverse reactions: Chemotherapy may cause some adverse reactions, most of which will be alleviated if chemotherapy is stopped. Side effects of chemotherapy include: 1. Fatigue; 2. Drowsiness; 3. Hair loss; 4. Low immunity and susceptibility to infection; 5. Loss of appetite; 6. Diarrhea; 7. Infertility, etc.

Trastuzumab Trastuzumab: Trastuzumab is a drug that blocks human growth factor protein kinase 2 HER2. In some male breast cancers, HER2 can help tumor cells grow and develop, so blocking HER2 can prevent cancer recurrence. It is usually used after chemoradiotherapy or chemotherapy, immediately introduced into the vein in liquid form, or injected intradermally.

Adverse reactions include: chills, fever, swelling of the face and mouth, headache, sweating, nausea, wheezing and shortness of breath, fatigue and difficulty sleeping, diarrhea or constipation, increased risk of infection, loss of appetite and weight loss, pain in muscles, bones and joints, breasts or lower abdomen, cardiovascular problems, etc.
