The fastest way to defrost fish

The fastest way to defrost fish

Many people will freeze the fish they buy but cannot eat immediately in the refrigerator. Wait for a while before taking it out and eating it. Of course, the texture of fish is quite special, so if you want to thaw fish, you need to master certain methods. If you cannot thaw the fish correctly, it may even have a great impact on its taste. So, what are the quickest ways to thaw fish?

1. Place the fish in the refrigerator overnight to allow it to thaw gradually.

Place fish in the refrigerator the night before eating to allow it to thaw gradually. This will keep the fish fresh at low temperatures while allowing the fish to thaw completely.

Thawing the fish in the refrigerator will help it retain its original flavor.

It will take several hours to thaw fish in the refrigerator, but if you are pressed for time, you can try other methods. Don't be lazy and leave the fish directly on the counter to thaw, as this may cause the outside of the fish to rot while the inside of the fish is not fully thawed.

2. Place the frozen fish in cold water

If the fish floats, place a heavy object such as a plate on top to keep it submerged. This will speed up the thawing process. Soak for about an hour to allow the fish to fully thaw.

You can also defrost the fish by running it under cold water. The water flow does not need to be too fast, just a normal speed. This way of thawing is faster than soaking in cold water. This method is only suitable for rinsing thinner fish fillets, as it will consume a lot of water when rinsing large pieces of fish.

Test the fish by pressing it with your finger to see if it is completely thawed. If it still feels hard in the center, continue to thaw.

Do not use hot water to thaw fish. Hot water will cause uneven thawing and destroy the taste of the meat. Fish that has been rinsed in hot water is more susceptible to bacteria, as the inside of the fish has not yet thawed.

3. Thawing in a microwave

Thaw fish in your microwave on the "Defrost" setting. Place the fish in a special container and thaw it in the microwave for a few minutes. Check the fish from time to time during the thawing process. Regardless of whether there is still ice on the fish, you can take it out as long as it becomes soft.

This method is only suitable when time is of the essence.

Be careful not to cook the fish in the microwave. Take the fish out when it is still slightly cold to prevent the taste and texture from deteriorating.
