How is breast cancer diagnosed

How is breast cancer diagnosed

The diagnosis of breast cancer must be based on histopathology and a pathological biopsy must be performed. The biopsy method is to remove certain tissues from the tumor, slice them under a microscope, and perform special staining to monitor indicators. There are two biopsy methods for breast cancer. One is an open surgical biopsy, in which the tumor is completely or partially removed for testing after the incision; the other is a hollow needle puncture biopsy, in which a thick needle is used to remove pathological tissue for testing. The biopsy requires sufficient tissue to facilitate pathological staining and subsequent immunohistochemical testing, providing an accurate basis for pathological diagnosis. Preoperative biopsy will not cause tumor metastasis or spread, and is a very safe detection method.

The best time to have breast cancer surgery

The incidence of breast cancer is increasing year by year, and the incidence in Asian women is higher than the global average. The surgery time for breast cancer patients is as follows: 1. After early breast cancer patients detect resectable lesions, improve preoperative examinations, exclude common complications and contraindications, and surgical treatment is the first choice; 2. Surgery should not be performed during the period of large tumors or the first diagnosis of stage IV. However, in locally advanced or other cases, surgery can be performed according to time through new adjuvant and other treatment methods; 3. Patients with isolated metastatic lesions at diagnosis of stage IV, good prognosis or long survival can also undergo surgical treatment.

How many years can you live after breast cancer surgery?

According to different pathological indicators, breast cancer can be divided into hormone receptor-dependent type and Her-2 positive type. The survival time after breast cancer surgery is related to the stage and classification. Simply put, after appropriate treatment of stage I breast cancer, the five-year survival rate can exceed 90%, stage II can reach 80%, and the five-year survival rate of stage III is lower, about 50%, and the stage IV period drops significantly, with a five-year survival rate of about 20-30%. In principle, the later the installment, the shorter the survival time. A special type of breast cancer, triple-negative breast cancer has a high probability of recurrence and metastasis, and a short survival time.
