Should a 7 cm kidney cancer be completely removed or preserved?

1. Clinically, renal cancer of 7 cm refers to the diameter of the tumor tissue of 7 cm. If the renal cancer is 7 cm, complete resection is usually required clinically.

2. Renal cancer is a malignant tumor that originates from the renal tubules. According to the TNM staging system, tumors with a diameter of less than 7 cm and lesions confined to the kidney are defined as stage T1. T1 tumors with a diameter of less than 4 cm are usually clinically defined as stage T1a, T1 tumors with a diameter of 4-7 cm are defined as stage T1b, and tumors with a diameter greater than 7 cm and confined to the kidney are defined as stage T2. Usually, T1 and T2 are called early renal cancer.

3. Total resection generally refers to radical nephrectomy, which is the first choice for T2 and T1b renal cancer. If imaging examination finds lymph node enlargement, lymph node cleaning is also required. Retention refers to nephron-preserving surgery, which is suitable for T1a patients and can preserve the kidneys, effectively reducing renal function damage.
