What are the treatments for colorectal cancer and polyps

Colon polyps refer to growths that protrude from the colon mucosa into the cavity. Polyps vary in size. Most patients with colon polyps have mild or no early clinical symptoms. They are often discovered accidentally during routine colonoscopy or barium enema examinations. Since colon polyps have no obvious signs, endoscopic examination is the best method for diagnosing colon polyps. What are the treatments for colorectal cancer and polyps?

The canceration rate of colon polyps is related to the tissue type and size of the polyps. Generally speaking, the canceration rate of adenomatous polyps is higher. If the adenoma is larger than 2 cm, the canceration rate is greater than 50%. But no matter what kind of colon polyp it is, it should be removed under endoscopy and sent for pathological examination. If endoscopic treatment is difficult, surgical treatment can also be performed. After endoscopic treatment of adenomatous polyps, regular follow-up and endoscopic review are required. Familial adenomatous polyps have a high rate of malignant transformation, and patients can undergo total colectomy as soon as possible. Experts say that endoscopic resection in batches according to the size, number, and morphology of the polyps, regular follow-up, and colonoscopy review can also achieve good results.
At the same time, colon polyps and colorectal cancer are diseases with family susceptibility and obvious genetic tendency, so we need to be particularly vigilant. Therefore, once the disease is diagnosed, the patient's immediate family members need to be followed up for a long time and undergo necessary examinations in time to achieve early detection, early diagnosis, and early treatment.
