What to do if upper eyelids droop

What to do if upper eyelids droop

When people reach a certain age, their skin will become loose, especially the skin on the face will become particularly sagging, making people look older. What should we do if the upper eyelids droop? Drooping upper eyelids will make the eyes look much smaller and the whole person look listless. To change this phenomenon, you can use massage, but the best and fastest way is to undergo cosmetic plastic surgery.

Causes of ptosis: Ptosis can be divided into two categories according to its causes: congenital and acquired.

1. Congenital ptosis is caused by defect of levator palpebrae superioris muscle or incomplete development of oculomotor nerve nucleus. It is present at birth, usually bilateral, and often has genetic factors. If the ptosis is caused by the defect of the levator palpebrae superioris muscle, it usually manifests as simple ptosis. If it is caused by the incomplete development of the nerve nucleus, it is often accompanied by other eye abnormalities, such as epicanthus, small palpebral fissure, strabismus, etc.

Second, acquired ptosis can be divided into the following types according to its cause:

1. Oculomotor nerve paralysis ptosis: caused by damage to the oculomotor nerve or nerve nucleus, usually unilateral, often accompanied by eye movement disorders and sometimes diplopia.

2. Sympathetic nerve paralysis ptosis: It is a partial symptom of sympathetic nerve paralysis, and is more common in patients with neck surgery, trauma and thyroid. The symptoms include mild ptosis of the upper eyelid, slightly higher position of the lower eyelid forming a small palpebral fissure, sunken eyeballs, and constricted pupils, which constitute Horner's syndrome.

3. Myogenic ptosis: common in myasthenia gravis and progressive extraocular muscle paralysis. The degree of ptosis caused by myasthenia gravis increases with fatigue. It is mild in the morning and worse at night when tired. After injection of neostigmine, the symptoms are significantly improved.

4. Mechanical ptosis: It is caused by lesions of the eyelid itself, such as tumors, amyloidosis, severe trachoma, inflammatory edema, trauma, tissue proliferation (elephantiasis), etc. In addition to directly damaging the levator palpebrae superioris muscle, the lesion also causes eyelid hypertrophy, leading to mechanical ptosis. There is another type of ptosis of unknown cause, namely senile myopathic ptosis, which is caused by primary muscular atrophy and is bilateral, and is more common in elderly women.

Treatment and care

Tips to prevent sagging eyelids: Open your eyes wide and move your eyeballs up and down for three to five minutes each time. It is best to do it every morning after waking up and before going to bed at night; washing your eyes frequently with fresh milk can make them bright.

1. Tea eye mask: 6 grams of tea leaves, 60 mg of boiled water.

Put tea leaves (choose one of black tea, green tea, oolong tea, or scented tea) into a teacup. Pour boiling water (preferably around 80 degrees) into the teacup, cover and steep for 5 minutes. Apply sterilized gauze dipped in tea to the skin around the eye circles and remove it after 20 minutes. Apply this once in the morning and evening.

Effect: Remove dark circles and eye bags.

2. Oil melon eye mask: 50 grams of sesame oil and 200 grams of cucumber. Squeeze the fresh cucumber juice and add sesame oil. Dip a sterilized cotton ball in the mixed juice, apply it on your eyelids before going to bed, and wash it off the next morning. Or use it alone, squeeze the cucumber juice, apply it on the eyelids before going to bed, and wash it off the next morning.

Eye bags are associated with sagging facial skin due to aging and drooping eyelids. Sesame oil is rich in vitamin E, which has the effect of resisting skin aging and sagging. Cucumber juice contains succinic acid, which can remove sebum and prevent fat from accumulating under the skin. Cucumber juice also contains B vitamins, which can smooth wrinkles and prevent skin sagging, so it can eliminate swelling around the eyes and bags under the eyes.
