What are the dangers of asthma?

In life, some people always think that symptoms such as chest tightness are caused by tiredness and do not take it seriously at all. Facts have proved that this approach is extremely wrong. Chest tightness may be caused by an asthma attack. In addition, pneumothorax and mediastinal emphysema, respiratory failure or respiratory arrest, emphysema and cor pulmonale may also occur.

1. Pneumothorax and mediastinal emphysema: Because gas stays in the alveoli during an asthmatic asthma attack, the alveoli are over-filled with air, and the intrapulmonary pressure increases significantly. Chronic asthmatic asthma and concurrent emphysema can induce bulla rupture, leading to spontaneous pneumothorax. When mechanical ventilation is used, the peak pressure of the airways and alveoli is too high, which can easily cause alveolar rupture and bring about barotrauma, leading to pneumothorax and even mediastinal emphysema.

2. Respiratory failure or respiratory arrest: Inadequate ventilation, infection, improper diagnosis and treatment, and medication in severe wheezing asthma attacks, as well as complications such as pneumothorax, atelectasis, and pulmonary edema, are all common causes of respiratory failure in wheezing asthma. Once respiratory failure is detected, asthma treatment becomes more difficult due to severe hypoxia, carbon dioxide retention, and acidosis. It is necessary to eliminate and reduce the causes, protect against detection, and provide first aid for respiratory failure after detection.

3. Emphysema and cor pulmonale: When wheezing asthma occurs, the patient's chest will swell, the shoulders will rise, and shortness of breath will occur with the slightest movement. Increased translucency can be seen in chest X-rays. The patient thinks he has emphysema, but in fact this is not the case. This is because wheezing asthma makes breathing very difficult during an attack, so much air in the lungs cannot be exhaled, forming clinical phenomena similar to emphysema. However, these phenomena will disappear if the attack is alleviated.

Through the above introduction, everyone should know the dangers of asthma. I hope that everyone can learn more about asthma. At least, take preventive measures in daily life to avoid or reduce the occurrence of the disease. Once you find that you have asthma, don’t panic. Go to a regular hospital for treatment in time. I believe you will recover soon.
