How long will it take for thyroid cancer scars to heal

How long it takes for the scar to heal after thyroid cancer surgery depends mainly on the pathological type of thyroid cancer, the surgical method, and the patient's healing ability. Generally speaking, if it is early-stage thyroid cancer, it will heal in 7-10 days after surgery. If it is late-stage thyroid cancer, it will take 1-2 months or even longer.

1. Early thyroid cancer: For patients with early thyroid cancer, if the tumor is small and has not spread or metastasized, the tumor can be completely removed through surgery. The scar usually heals in 7-10 days after surgery.

2. Advanced thyroid cancer: If the patient has advanced thyroid cancer, the tumor has spread and metastasized. Lymph node dissection is required at the same time as the tumor is removed. The healing time after surgical resection is longer. In addition, the patient's body resistance and recovery ability are different, so the time for the scar to heal will be extended, requiring 1-2 months or even longer. Some patients need radionuclide therapy after surgery to further improve the cure rate. The scar of such patients will take longer to heal, and may not heal well for 3-6 months;

3. Other situations: Some patients have scar-prone constitutions. Due to poor skin healing ability after surgery, scar hyperplasia is easy to form at the scar site. For such patients, the time it takes for scars to heal may be appropriately extended. Laser treatment or drug treatment is needed to reduce scar hyperplasia, and the time it takes for scars to heal will be extended accordingly, which takes about 2-3 months.

4. Others: Thyroid cancer patients need to pay attention to maintenance and rest after surgery, avoid fatigue, staying up late, mental stress, excessive stress and other bad living habits. In terms of diet, they should avoid eating spicy and irritating foods, and eat more fresh vegetables and fruits, which is conducive to better healing of scars.
