What is the incision-down surgery for thyroid cancer

Thyroid cancer surgery is performed with the incision downwards, usually referring to thyroid cancer patients undergoing neck lymph node dissection. This surgical method is one of the more common methods of treating thyroid cancer in clinical practice, and is mainly suitable for patients with mid- to late-stage thyroid cancer.

1. Indications: If the thyroid cancer patient's condition has developed to the middle and late stages and has local lymph node metastasis, then neck lymph node dissection is required for treatment. In addition, this surgical approach is also required for thyroid cancer patients with distant metastasis;

2. Contraindications: If thyroid cancer patients experience obvious discomfort during the onset of the disease, such as dyspnea and dysphagia, and are accompanied by severe hyperthyroidism symptoms, neck lymph node dissection is not recommended. Because surgery at this time may further aggravate the condition and be detrimental to the body's recovery. In addition, if the patient has coagulation dysfunction, this surgery is not recommended;

3. Postoperative care: After the neck lymph node dissection, the patient needs to rest more and avoid excessive fatigue or strenuous exercise. At the same time, the wound area should be kept clean and hygienic, and should not be exposed to water or bathed for a short period of time. The diet should also be light, and you can eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, such as apples and tomatoes, and eat less spicy foods, such as peppers and garlic;

4. Other precautions: Since cervical lymph node dissection is an open surgery, local swelling may occur after the operation. After the operation, you need to take antibiotics as prescribed by your doctor to prevent infection, such as amoxicillin capsules, cefixime capsules, etc.
