Is targeted therapy effective for advanced lung cancer? Matters needing attention in the treatment of advanced lung cancer

The treatment effect of late-stage lung cancer is poor, and there is no good treatment method currently. However, the treatment of tumors has entered the targeted era. Tumor molecular treatment is becoming more and more important. Tumor molecular biology and genomics have developed by leaps and bounds. Molecular targeted drugs treat tumors against specific targets. They have a high comparative effect and are not highly threatening. They are widely used in the field of lung cancer.

Targeted therapy is a treatment that targets identified factors that may cause cancer at the cellular and molecular levels. Portrazza (Necitumumab) developed in the United States is a biological drug approved for the first-line treatment of metastatic squamous non-small cell lung cancer (the so-called first-line treatment refers to the chemotherapy regimen that can be used for the first selection, which is more ideal and economical, and has a relatively high effect. This means that this drug is very suitable and is given priority for the treatment of lung cancer).

In the SQUIRE study, 1,093 patients with advanced non-small cell carcinoma received gemcitabine + cisplatin or gemcitabine + cisplatin + portrazza. The survival time of patients in the portrazza group was 11.5 months longer than that of the former group. It was approved by the FDA in November 2015. In other words, the average life expectancy of the 1,093 patients who received gemcitabine + cisplatin or gemcitabine + cisplatin + portrazza was extended by nearly 1 year. This means that the life expectancy of some patients may be extended by far more than 1 year.

Of course, the success of the drug in the United States is not only due to the drug, but also closely related to the medical conditions and advanced treatment options in the United States. Data shows that the 5-year survival rate of cancer patients in the United States is 60% to 70%, while the 5-year survival rate of cancer patients in China is only around 30%. In view of a large amount of data and clinical evidence, we have reason to believe that it is of course good for cancer treatment for patients who are eligible to receive treatment in American hospitals.

The United States has a high level of lung cancer treatment and is also leading the world. With the advancement of technology, the prognosis of lung cancer treatment is also improving. I believe that humans will be able to conquer cancer in the future.
