What are the new methods for treating liver cancer? Proton therapy is the first choice for new treatment of liver cancer

The peak incidence of primary liver cancer in foreign countries is at the age of 60, but in my country, the peak age of liver cancer is lowered to 35-45 years old. Tracing back to the source, hepatitis B and hepatitis C are the main culprits, especially for people with active viruses in their bodies, the possibility of cancer also increases. In addition, anyone with fatty liver, alcoholic liver, or drug-induced hepatitis has a much higher chance of developing liver cancer than ordinary people.

Liver cancer is not an "incurable disease", and some liver cancers can be clinically cured. The key is early detection and early treatment, and early surgical resection is still the most effective treatment method of choice. The surgical resection rate of small liver cancer is as high as over 80%, the surgical mortality rate is less than 2%, and the 5-year survival rate after surgery is 60% to 70%. For large liver cancers larger than 5 cm, as long as the patient is in good general condition, has no obvious organic lesions of important organs such as the heart, lungs, and kidneys, has good liver function, has no severe liver cirrhosis, and has no extensive intrahepatic and extrahepatic metastasis of the tumor, it is still an indication for surgical resection, and good treatment effects can be obtained after surgery. However, in specific clinical diagnosis and treatment, because liver cancer detection is very hidden, most liver cancer patients are not discovered until they have developed to the middle and late stages and have jaundice, abdominal pain, abdominal distension, and ascites.

Proton therapy The use of protons for tumor treatment began in 1961. After continuous experiments and technological breakthroughs, the Borlag proton technology has brought good news to countless cancer patients. Currently, the countries that use protons to treat tumors are the United States, Japan, and China. China introduced the Borlag proton system for clinical cancer treatment in 2004. Proton accelerators are used to generate high-energy proton beams, which are injected into the human body under precise control to accurately release energy to the lesion site, and can be used for systemic cancer tumor treatment. In addition, protons have excellent characteristics such as small penumbra and less side scattering, so they hardly damage normal tissues. Proton therapy can also effectively avoid certain side effects caused by radiation and improve the quality of life of patients. Proton therapy is suitable for radiotherapy of various benign and malignant tumors, especially for early tumors, with a five-year survival rate of more than 80%.
