How to treat liver cancer? A review of 5 professional liver cancer treatment methods

1. Surgical treatment

There is no doubt that surgery is the most effective method for treating liver cancer. The one-year survival rate after surgical resection of early liver cancer is over 80%, and the five-year survival rate is over 50%. If combined with comprehensive treatment after surgery, better results can be achieved.

2. Hepatic artery embolization chemotherapy

Arterial embolization chemotherapy is to inject embolic materials and anticancer drugs into the tumor's nutrient vessels through a catheter to interrupt the blood flow through the tumor. The concentration of anticancer drugs in the embolization area is high, causing the tumor to shrink or disappear. Recently, it is even regarded as the first choice among non-surgical methods.

3. Radiation therapy

Radiation therapy can reduce the size of the tumor, relieve symptoms, and prolong life for primary liver cancer. It is mainly suitable for patients with good general condition, normal liver function, and localized tumors that cannot be removed.

4. Chemotherapy

Combined chemotherapy can significantly improve the efficacy. Finding a more effective and reasonable combined chemotherapy method is also one of the research topics for liver cancer treatment in the future.

5. Hepatic artery catheterization chemotherapy

Because 90% of the blood supply of liver cancer comes from the hepatic artery, chemotherapy drugs are infused into the hepatic artery to increase the local drug concentration in the tumor, thereby greatly improving the drug's ability to kill cancer cells with minimal systemic side effects. In addition, there are also biological therapy, cryotherapy, microwave therapy, laser therapy, and liver transplantation.
