The main purpose of UV protection is to avoid excessive exposure. People who are exposed to UV rays for a long time should wear protective glasses or sunglasses. The general requirements for protective glasses are: colored lenses, the ability to filter ultraviolet light and blue light, the ability to distinguish colors, and frames that are hard and resistant. Especially for high-risk groups such as those with aphakia, macular degeneration, and retinitis pigmentosa, more attention should be paid to strengthening protection. As for infrared protection, we should strengthen publicity, and prohibit looking directly at the sun, electric arc light, ice and snow. Sunglasses can only block ultraviolet rays within 0.4 microns in the spectrum range, but it is well known that UVA has the longest wavelength among ultraviolet rays and can directly penetrate into the dermis of the skin, and is also the main killer of "photoaging".

Generally speaking, the time when you can focus on your eyelids is when you are obsessed with various eye shadow cosmetics. However, we may forget that eyelid skin care is far more practical and urgent than various cosmetics that make your eyes deep. Eyelid makeup removal and sun protection need to be given equal attention. You can use eye cream containing SPF, which will ensure better absorption.

3. How to protect eyes from the sun through diet

3.1. Eat more yellow-green fruits and vegetables: Yellow-green fruits and vegetables can filter blue light. Lutein and zeaxanthin are members of a large family of pigment complexes called carotenoids. These two pigments give foods their beautiful yellow-green hue, such as lush green spinach, bright green peas, and deep yellow corn.

Additionally, once these two pigments enter the body, they accumulate in light-sensitive tissues at the back of the eye, which protect the eye by filtering out blue light. Other sources of lutein and carotene include romaine lettuce, kale, broccoli, avocado, Brussels sprouts, zucchini, kiwi, etc.

3.2. Eat more fruits and vegetables containing vitamin C: Fruits and vegetables containing vitamin C are antioxidants. Antioxidants neutralize oxygen free radicals—highly reactive molecules that form naturally in the body as part of normal metabolic processes. As long as there are plenty of antioxidants around, they can effectively neutralize the free radicals that are formed.

How to care for your eyes

1. Makeup removal and cleaning: Because the skin around the eyes is very sensitive and delicate, you should be extremely careful when removing makeup and must use special eye makeup remover products.

2. Choose appropriate eye care products: There are many eye care products available on the market, such as eye cream, eye gel, eye essence, etc. Eye cream is highly moisturizing and nourishing, suitable for people with wrinkles around the eyes; eye gel is a plant-based gel-like substance with mild ingredients, easy to absorb and non-greasy, suitable for dark circles, eye bags, etc. Generally, use essence first, then eye cream or eye gel. A mung bean-sized amount is sufficient. It is best to apply hot compress first and then apply, and combine with massage and acupressure for better results.

3. Massage and acupressure: Eye massage can promote blood circulation and muscle movement around the eyes, brighten eyes and eliminate fatigue.

Specific method: Apply eye care products before going to bed every night, and use the middle finger or ring finger to massage. Gently push the upper eyelid from the beginning of the eye to the end of the eye and press lightly to the temple, then start from the end of the eye and press each acupoint lightly (in order, the Sizhu point at the end of the eyebrow, the Yufu point in the middle of the eyebrow, the Zanzhu point at the beginning of the eyebrow, and finally to the Jingming point at the beginning of the eye). The same is true for the lower eyelid, but the acupoints are pressed with fingers (in order, the Tongzi point at the end of the eye, the Chengqi point and the Sibai point below the center of the lower eye). Press each acupoint based on soreness and swelling, release after 2 seconds, and repeat 5-6 times.
