How is small cell lung cancer staged

Small cell lung cancer is staged according to the TNM staging system, which includes tumor size, lymph node metastasis, or distant metastasis. It mainly includes limited-stage small cell carcinoma and extensively metastatic small cell carcinoma.

1. Limited-stage small cell carcinoma <br/> Limited-stage small cell carcinoma is also called early-stage small cell carcinoma. The lesion range is limited. It is mainly under the mucosa, with a small lesion range. The cancer cells are in the primary lesion and have not metastasized through the blood and lymphatic systems. The local lesion is removed surgically, and adjuvant treatment is performed through radiotherapy and chemotherapy after surgery, with a good prognosis.
2. Extensively metastatic small cell carcinoma <br/>Extensively metastatic small cell carcinoma has a large lesion range, not only limited to the submucosal membrane, but has invaded other adjacent organs and tissues or metastasized to other organs of the body through lymph nodes, causing other organs and tissues to become cancerous. Surgery is not possible, and intervention treatments such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy are the main treatments.
