Can lotus flowers be grown from lotus seeds?

Lotus seeds can be seen everywhere in life, especially in summer, when lotus flowers are in full bloom. The green is particularly beautiful. After the flower season, lotus pods will grow. There are many lotus seeds in the lotus pods. It is a very good way to cook soup and porridge with lotus seeds. In addition, lotus seeds themselves have high nutritional value and contain trace elements that can nourish the heart and calm the mind. They are suitable for people with weak qi and blood. However, some people are curious whether lotus seeds can grow lotus flowers?

Lotus root

Planting lotus roots in lotus pots is actually a very good idea, because lotus roots are very easy to obtain and can be sold in the vegetable market. Then prepare a larger flower pot without a bottom hole. Because lotus roots are relatively large, if the flowerpot is too small it will limit the growth of the lotus roots and be detrimental to flowering.

The next step is to ferment the base fertilizer. You can add some cake fertilizer to dry leaves and then ferment it. It usually takes about two weeks. If you think this step is too troublesome, you can directly use the decomposed cake fertilizer at the bottom of the flower pot as base fertilizer.

Pond mud does not require too much preparation. You can dig some from a local pond, or you can buy special pond mud online or at a flower market. After putting the pond mud into the flowerpot, pour in clean water. You don’t need too much water, just enough to cover the pond mud. Then dry it in the sun for two or three days. After the pond mud has naturally settled, you can plant lotus roots.

When planting, do not bury the lotus root too deep. Let the lotus root buds face upwards. Do not rush to water it after planting. The water level can be about the same height as the pond mud. Water it after two or three days. The next step is to wait quietly for the lotus roots to sprout.

Lotus seeds

We have discussed the planting of lotus roots above. Now let’s talk about the method of planting lotus flowers from lotus seeds. A critical step in the lotus seed planting process is the germination of the lotus seeds. Because the lotus seed skin is very hard and not very water permeable, the lotus seed must be opened a little so that it can germinate.

It is actually not difficult to open a lotus seed. First observe the lotus seed, and you will find that the two ends of the lotus seed are different, one end is pointed, and the other end has a round hole. Just find a pair of pliers and make a hole at one end of the round hole. If you don't have pliers, you can also put one end of the round hole on the ground and grind a hole.

Lotus seeds that have opened are easier to sprout, so they just need to be soaked in clean water. You can consider transplanting the lotus seeds when they sprout. The potting soil for transplanting is the same as the above method, so I won’t go into details here.

In addition, lotus prefers light, so it is best to plant it in a place with sufficient light. This makes it easier to bloom.
