Oxytocin is a drug called oxytocin in our daily life. This drug is usually injected into women when they have uterine contractions. It can help women quickly open the cervix and give birth smoothly. However, oxytocin also has certain side effects. It can aggravate women's abdominal pain and even cause some other sequelae. So what is the role of oxytocin injection? What is the role of oxytocin Oxytocin is oxytocin, a uterine contraction drug. It is currently one of the commonly used drugs for pregnant women to give birth. It can be extracted from the posterior pituitary gland of animals. From the literal meaning of oxytocin, it is not difficult to understand that it is a drug that can help pregnant women give birth. Injectable oxytocin can stimulate the contraction of uterine smooth muscle, simulate the uterine contraction effect of normal delivery, and cause cervical dilation. The uterus' response to oxytocin gradually increases during pregnancy and reaches a peak at full term. It can also stimulate the contraction of mammary smooth muscles, which helps milk to be discharged from the breast, but it does not increase the amount of milk secretion from the mammary gland. Precautions for using oxytocin This product can be absorbed from the oral mucosa and selectively act on the uterine smooth muscle to promote uterine contraction. Suitable for inducing labor and delaying labor pains. The effect is the same as intravenous oxytocin. It is contraindicated for women with pelvic stenosis, history of uterine surgery (including cesarean section), excessive labor pains, obstructed birth canal, placental abruption, or severe pregnancy poisoning. Oxytocin for injection can be used for induction of labor, acceleration of labor, uterine bleeding caused by weak or poor uterine contractions after delivery and abortion, and to understand the placental reserve function (oxytocin stimulation test). Note that when injectable oxytocin is used to induce labor, it must be given with clear indications and performed under close monitoring to avoid danger to the mother and fetus. Oxytocin injection has significant therapeutic effects. It takes effect 3-5 minutes after intramuscular injection and the effect lasts for 30-60 minutes. It takes effect immediately after intravenous drip. The frequency and intensity of uterine contractions gradually increase within 15-60 minutes and then stabilize. The effect gradually decreases 20 minutes after the completion of the drip. T1/2 is generally 1-6 minutes. If the patient needs to take the drug oxytocin for injection, he must pay attention to its usage. The use of injectable oxytocin may occasionally cause nausea, vomiting, increased heart rate, or arrhythmia. Large doses may cause hypertension or water retention. If side effects occur after using oxytocin injection, consult a doctor promptly and receive necessary treatment. |
