Cervical cancer screening can prevent cervical cancer, but can regular cervical cancer screening affect cervical cancer mortality? British scholars have concluded that the correlation between cervical cancer screening and the incidence of high-grade cervical cancer is very strong. Cervical cancer screening can effectively prevent death. What effect does cervical cancer screening have on cervical cancer mortality? There is no doubt that cervical cancer screening can prevent cervical cancer. But what is the impact of regular screening on cervical cancer mortality? It is still unknown. Population-based case-control study using prospective cervical screening data from the United Kingdom from 1988 to 2013, with a total of 11 619 women diagnosed with cervical cancer between April 2007 and March 2013. For each cervical cancer case, two age-matched non-cancer controls were used, aged 25-79 years, and conditional logistic regression was used to estimate the odds ratios (ORs) of stage-specific cancers (regular screening vs no screening in the first 15 years; irregular screening vs no screening). Data show that regular cervical cancer screening for women aged 35-64 can reduce the incidence of stage 1A cervical cancer by 67% (95% CI 62-73%). And reduce the incidence of stage 3 or more serious cervical cancer by 95% (95% CI: 94-97%). Women who regularly undergo cervical cancer screening (≤ 5.5 years) are compared with women who do not undergo cervical cancer screening. The OR value of cancer incidence is 0.18 (95% CI: 0.16-0.19), and the OR value of mortality is 0.08 (95% CI: 0.07-0.09). It is estimated that 70% (95% CI: 66-73%) of cervical cancer deaths can be prevented by cervical cancer screening in the UK. If everyone had regular cervical cancer screening, this figure would increase to 83% (95% CI: 82-84%). The association between cervical cancer screening and the incidence of high-grade cervical cancer is very strong. Cervical cancer screening is effective in preventing deaths. |
