Introduction to what is fibroid

Introduction to what is fibroid

Fibroids are now common. When this symptom appears, it is necessary to seek timely treatment. Often, some patients with fibroids do not seek treatment, thinking that it will not pose a threat to the body. If it is not treated for a long time, it will cause harm to the health. Let us introduce what is fibroid?

Breast fibroadenoma is a benign tumor composed of a mixture of glandular epithelium and fibrous tissue. It is common in young women and is related to the imbalance of sex hormone levels in the patient's body. The disease is also known as adenofibroma and adenoma, which is due to the different degrees of fibrous components and glandular epithelial hyperplasia that constitute the tumor. When the tumor is mainly composed of glandular epithelial hyperplasia and the fibrous component is less, it is called fibroadenoma; if the fibrous tissue occupies the majority of the tumor and the glandular duct component is less, it is called adenofibroma; when the tumor tissue is composed of a large number of glandular duct components, it is called adenoma. The above three classifications are only differences in pathological morphology. There is no difference in their clinical manifestations, treatment and prognosis, so they are collectively called fibroadenomas. Breast fibroadenoma is common in the upper outer quadrant of the breast. It is round or oval in shape. It is more common in clinical practice. It grows slowly and can grow rapidly during pregnancy or lactation. Fibroadenomas that occur in a very small number of puberty can rapidly increase in size in a short period of time, with a diameter of up to 8 to 10 cm, which is called giant fibroadenoma, and is still a benign tumor. It is extremely rare for fibroadenoma to transform into fibrosarcoma or breast cancer, less than 1%.

Causes

Ovarian function is vigorous, estrogen levels are too high, and regulation is unbalanced. In addition, the patient is sensitive to estrogen. Under the long-term stimulation of estrogen, the breast epithelial tissue and fibrous tissue overproliferate, the structure is disordered, and tumors are formed. Because breast fibroadenomas are related to vigorous secretion of sex hormones, they mostly occur in young women and are rare in women before menstruation or after menopause.

Clinical manifestations

It is mainly a painless breast lump, rarely accompanied by breast pain or nipple discharge. The lump is often found accidentally, while bathing, or during a physical examination. Most lumps are single, but they can also be multiple, or lumps can be felt in both breasts at the same time or successively. Most of them are round or oval, with a diameter of 1 to 3 cm, but there are also smaller or larger ones, and occasionally huge ones. They have clear boundaries, neat edges, smooth surface, elasticity, no tenderness, large range of motion, and no adhesion to the skin.
