Can glioma be cured?

Whether glioma can be cured is an answer that many patients are eager to know. Because glioma will recur again and again after treatment, it can be said that it is difficult to cure, which makes some patients lose confidence. So does the fact that glioma is difficult to cure mean that it cannot be cured? The following editor will introduce to you whether glioma can be cured.

For gliomas, a variety of treatment methods can be used to shrink the tumor and reduce intracranial pressure. These methods include surgical resection, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and drug therapy. However, no matter how effective radiotherapy and chemotherapy are, the first thing to do is to perform maximum tumor surgical resection under the safety permit of neurosurgery. Generally speaking, doctors who are good at surgery can remove most of the tumor tissue. The remaining part, which is difficult to remove with a scalpel, is what radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and drugs should deal with.

At present, surgical resection can, on the one hand, reduce the tumor to a very small residual amount and prolong the patient's survival period. On the other hand, it is to make adequate preparations for the best effect of auxiliary treatments such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy can only deal with a small part of tumor cells. Some intracranial tumors are even resistant to radiotherapy, which means that radiotherapy has no fundamental effect on tumor cells and often brings great side effects. Even for chemotherapy, most intracranial tumors are insensitive. In other words, without a more thorough surgical resection as a basis, the cure of intracranial tumors is a fantasy. Complete surgical resection of gliomas must be based on clean magnetic resonance MRI images, so that chemotherapy will have a better effect.

Warm reminder: Although brain glioma cannot be cured fundamentally, through professional surgical treatment combined with synchronous radiotherapy and chemotherapy, patients can achieve a longer survival period and a higher quality of life.
