Can glioma be cured?

Glioma is a malignant tumor in the brain. Once the disease occurs, it is a torture for the patient and also creates a great burden for the patient's family. Therefore, after the disease occurs, everyone wants to eradicate the glioma and try all kinds of methods to treat it, no longer suffer from it, and restore a healthy body. So, can glioma be eradicated?

Clinically, brain gliomas are generally classified pathologically into grade I (astrocytoma), grade II (astroblastoma), and grade III to IV (glioblastoma multiforme). People are not very familiar with the issue of whether brain gliomas are benign or malignant.

The first thing patients need to understand is that currently there are no benign gliomas, all are malignant, but in clinical practice some glioma types with relatively low pathological grades are often referred to as relatively benign, such as pilocytic astrocytoma, astrocytoma grade 1 or grade 1-2.

Low-grade gliomas have a good prognosis after treatment. For example, patients with pilocytic astrocytomas can achieve a good prognosis of 20-30 years after ideal treatment. Some patients with oligodendrogliomas can achieve a stable period of more than 10 years if the condition is ideal. However, recurrence of gliomas of that pathological grade is a matter of sooner or later. Therefore, when we talk about cure, it is clinical cure, not radical cure.

Glioma patients or their families should look at this issue objectively. No matter what, patients with glioma should actively treat it and take better treatment methods to obtain a good prognosis. At present, gliomas are generally treated with simple radiotherapy or surgery + radiotherapy. Radiotherapy is the main treatment method that can obtain an ideal prognosis. Regardless of the surgical prognosis, radiotherapy must be given to obtain a good prognosis. For some high-level patients, chemotherapy can be used in combination.
