The dangers of not taking a nap

The dangers of not taking a nap

There are actually many dangers of not taking a nap. The most important one is the problem of decreased immunity, which will be more obvious for children and some middle-aged and elderly people. Therefore, the importance of taking a nap is reflected. The posture when taking a nap is also very important. Try not to sleep on the table, which will cause numbness in the arms or have nightmares after falling asleep.

Reduced immunity

Sleeping on your stomach has many harmful effects. After a person falls asleep, the body's basal metabolism slows down and the body's temperature regulation function also decreases, resulting in a decrease in the body's resistance. All the pores in the body are open. If you don’t keep warm, you will often experience symptoms such as nasal congestion and dizziness after waking up.

Induce gastritis

The first thing that “sleeping on your stomach” affects is the digestive system. This is because it takes the human body at least one hour to empty the food in the stomach after lunch. If you lie on the table for a nap after lunch, the stomach will be compressed, which increases the burden of peristalsis and easily causes stomach bloating. This reduces the stomach's ability to digest food, thus affecting the body's absorption of nutrients. Of course, sleeping on your stomach occasionally has little impact on human health, but if you do this in the long run, your child will definitely get stomach problems, and its development will also be affected because nutrients are difficult to absorb.

Numbness in arms

Secondly, sleeping at a desk can sometimes cause discomfort in various parts of the body. If the head is resting on the arm for a long time, the blood circulation in the arm will be blocked and nerve conduction will be affected, which can easily cause symptoms such as numbness and soreness in the arm.

Vision problems

Again, sleeping at a desk often causes temporary blurred vision after waking up. This is because sleeping at a desk puts pressure on the eyeballs, causing high intraocular pressure. If this continues for a long time, the eyeball will swell and the eye axis will increase.

Increased fatigue

In addition, sleeping at a desk cannot allow the body to completely relax. Certain muscle groups, sweat glands, and skin of the body will still be in a tense state, resulting in not only a feeling of not being refreshed after sleeping, but on the contrary, you may feel more tired.

Susceptible to cervical spondylosis

In summer, many people feel drowsy after lunch. This is because the spleen and stomach help digest food as the qi and blood circulate throughout the body, and the brain's oxygen and nutrition supply decreases significantly. Don't go to bed immediately at this time, because falling asleep immediately will cause insufficient blood supply to the brain, and it will also affect gastrointestinal digestion and be detrimental to food absorption. Therefore, it is best to go to bed half an hour after eating.

For those who do not have the conditions to sleep in bed at noon, Li Jinbo believes that it is best not to sleep with your arms as a pillow and your head buried in the desk. Because burying the head will cause the curvature of the cervical spine to be opposite to the normal physiological curvature, and the muscles of the shoulder and neck will become stiff due to maintaining an abnormal posture for a long time, it is easy to suffer from cervical spondylosis. Moreover, long-term pressure on the arms and face will affect normal blood circulation, causing numbness or even soreness in the arms and face.
