Medication is not recommended for thyroid cancer

Medication is not recommended for thyroid cancer

Thyroid cancer is a relatively common cancer in today's society. There are many treatments for it, and the success rate of cure is relatively high. So, under what circumstances is it not recommended to use drugs to treat thyroid cancer? Let's explain this situation in detail.

The treatment of thyroid cancer with drugs is more suitable for the palliative condition, because the drug effect is very slow, and the cancer cells proliferate very quickly. The drug cannot control the spread of cancer cells at all, but delays the patient's treatment. Therefore, in this case, you can choose a treatment method that works quickly, specifically:

1. Surgery

Surgical treatment of thyroid cancer includes surgery on the thyroid gland itself and neck lymph node dissection. There is still disagreement on the extent of thyroidectomy, with the smallest range being lobe and isthmus resection and the largest being total thyroidectomy.

2. Endocrine therapy

Patients who undergo subtotal or total thyroidectomy should take thyroxine tablets for life to prevent hypothyroidism and suppress TSH. Both papillary adenocarcinoma and follicular adenocarcinoma have TSH receptors, and TSH can affect the growth of thyroid cancer through its receptors.

3. Radionuclide therapy

For papillary adenocarcinoma and follicular adenocarcinoma, 131 iodine radiotherapy is used after surgery. It is suitable for patients over 45 years old, those with multiple cancer foci, locally invasive tumors, and those with distant metastases.

4. External beam radiation therapy

Mainly used for anaplastic thyroid cancer.

If medication is suitable for treatment, you may as well use Chinese medicine for treatment and conditioning, and combine it with diet therapy. This will be more effective, combining anti-cancer and strengthening the body.

In terms of diet, patients with thyroid cancer should also pay attention to eating a nutritionally comprehensive diet that is high in protein, low in fat and salt, and eat less or no irritating food. This will help them maintain a healthy body and mind and facilitate recovery from the disease.
