How long is the life span of glioma

How long is the life span of glioma

Glioma is a brain tumor disease that is extremely harmful to human health. It has caused panic and concern among many patients. The age of the patients ranges from 30 to 40 years old, and there are even patients around 20 years old. Are they going to end their lives in their prime youth? Many patients are unwilling to accept this. So how long is the life span of glioma?

Different classifications have different effects on the patient's life expectancy.

The categories are as follows:

Grade 1 (Grade I): It is relatively rare. But the treatment effect is relatively good. If it can be completely removed, it can be cured without recurrence. Grade 2 (Grade II): It mainly includes astrocytoma (astrocytic glioma), oligodendroglioma, oligodendro-astrocytic glioma, ependymoma, and myxoid pilocytic astrocytoma. If the risk of removing the tumor is relatively low and it can be completely removed, the average life expectancy after surgery can reach 8 to 9 years; if it cannot be completely removed and the tumor risk value is relatively high, then the possibility of recurrence is greater, and the average life expectancy after surgery will drop to about 3 years.

Grade 3 (III): mainly includes anaplastic astrocytoma (astrocytic glioma), anaplastic oligodendroglioma, anaplastic oligodendro-astrocytic glioma, and anaplastic ependymoma. Basically, they are all "anaplastic", which is even more serious. It means that the patient may only have a life expectancy of 1.5 to 3 years, and the recurrence after surgery is more severe. If there is no surgery, the survival period will be even shorter.

Grade 4 (IV): Glioblastoma (also known as glioblastoma multiforme), gliosarcoma, this is the most severe type of brain glioma, suffering from this tumor often means an average life expectancy of only 14 months, and the disease will soon relapse about 14 months after surgery. If not treated, the survival period will be even shorter, usually a few months.
