Is the recurrence rate of tongue cancer high?

Is the recurrence rate of tongue cancer high?

Many cancer patients worry about the same problem after being cured, that is, is there a possibility of recurrence? Take tongue cancer for example. Everyone thinks that we rely on it for basic diet such as eating and drinking. It is used very frequently and it is a very important organ in the human body. So what we want to understand today is whether the recurrence rate of tongue cancer is high.

It is also difficult to answer the question of whether the recurrence rate of tongue cancer is high. This is related to many factors, including the severity of the patient's condition, the treatment methods adopted, physical condition, mentality, nursing, etc. According to statistics, among newly diagnosed patients with solid tumors in my country, the recurrence rate is 60% one year after surgery, and more than 80% of patients die from tumor recurrence and metastasis; the 1 to 3 years after the tumor patients are discharged from the hospital after treatment is the high-risk period for recurrence and metastasis, and 2/3 of them have already shown clinical metastasis. If it is in the early stage, the recurrence rate is not high. Early tongue cancer can consider radiotherapy, simple surgical resection or cryotherapy. The reasons for the recurrence of tongue cancer are mainly reflected in the following aspects:

1. Residual cancer after surgery: Everyone has cancer cells in their body. Our immune system kills thousands of cancer cells every day. People with poor immunity can only kill some cancer cells, and the remaining ones accumulate over time to form tumors. For patients, surgery can only kill the tumor mass that doctors can see with their naked eyes, which means that the invisible cancer cells in the blood or around the primary lesion cannot be eradicated, and residual cancer still exists, which is one of the reasons for recurrence and metastasis.

2. Decreased immunity after surgery: Surgery causes great trauma to cancer, resulting in a sharp decline in immunity. Immune cells are unable to resist the growth of cancer cells, leading to tumor recurrence.

3. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy cause decreased immunity: Radiotherapy and chemotherapy kill normal cells while killing cancer cells. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy have certain effects in the short term, but after a period of time, the patient finds that the tumor has recurred and has to start radiotherapy and chemotherapy again. In fact, this is because radiotherapy and chemotherapy cause the patient's immunity to decrease, causing cancer cells to grow wildly, leading to recurrence and metastasis.

4. Wrong patient thinking: Many patients think that after surgery to remove the tumor, they will strengthen radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and the effect of radiotherapy and chemotherapy is very good, but they find that the disease relapses after two or three years. In fact, this is caused by wrong patient thinking. Patients should know that surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy are aimed at the disease body, and the production of cancer cells is caused by changes in the environment in your body. As long as your internal environment is not improved, the possibility of recurrence is still very high.
