Many people are very unfamiliar with glioma. In fact, glioma is very harmful to people's health. Relevant oncology experts said that common clinical manifestations of glioma are headache, vomiting, and decreased vision. Relevant ophthalmologists said that glioma should be detected and treated early to prevent serious complications. So, is glioma harmful to the human body? 1. Mental disorders It is caused by progressive increase in intracranial pressure, or it can be the result of compression and destruction of the brain substance by tumors. The early symptoms are generally mild, manifested as apathy, dullness, memory and comprehension impairment, etc. As intracranial pressure continues to increase, mental symptoms become more obvious, such as dementia, confusion, personality and behavior changes, etc. 2. Tumor bleeding Patients with a small amount of bleeding may have no symptoms or very mild symptoms. Patients with a large amount of bleeding may show symptoms of high intracranial pressure, hemiplegia, aphasia, and in severe cases, loss of consciousness, brain herniation, or even sudden death. 3. Limb paralysis Most cases are hemiplegia. The incidence is higher in patients with tumors located near the motor area of the brain, the basal ganglia, or the ventral side of the brainstem. It starts as mild paralysis, which gradually develops into severe paralysis and even complete paralysis. Hemiplegia is accompanied by other manifestations, such as symptoms of high intracranial pressure. 4. Cause epilepsy The incidence rate accounts for about 30% of brain tumors. It is mostly caused by direct stimulation or compression of the tumor. The seizure type is often localized, but it can also be a major seizure. The seizure is related to the location and nature of the tumor. For example, tumors in the motor area and its vicinity have a higher incidence of epilepsy. Glioma, astrocytoma and oligodendroglioma have a higher incidence rate. 5. Causes blindness There are not many people who go blind suddenly due to brain tumors. Often, vision loss occurs first. If it is not treated promptly and effectively, it will gradually develop into blindness. Some children, and even a few adult patients, ignore the loss of vision on one side, and the doctor finds that one eye is blind during the examination. Some patients, especially the elderly, have eye diseases accompanied by brain tumors. When vision changes, they mistakenly think it is an eye disease, delay treatment, and develop blindness. Common tumors include craniopharyngioma, pituitary adenoma, glioma, glioma and high intracranial pressure caused by brain tumors. |
