Psychological care for elderly patients with osteosarcoma

Psychological care for elderly patients with osteosarcoma

Today's clinical nursing pays special attention to psychological care, which reflects humanistic care, and is also a reflection of the progress of modern nursing. Inadequate psychological care is not only not conducive to the improvement of the condition, but also leads to a series of problems such as medical disputes. So how to provide psychological care for elderly patients with osteosarcoma?

1. Moderate concealment

When necessary, nursing staff should conceal the actual condition of the patient, help stabilize the patient's mood, and help the patient cooperate with treatment and recover as soon as possible. The acceptance of bone cancer varies with the patient's cultural level and family situation. Generally speaking, patients with high cultural level and good family economic conditions have a higher acceptance, while patients with low cultural level and poor family economic conditions have a poor acceptance. For patients with high acceptance, part of the condition can be informed first, and then decide whether to conceal the condition based on the patient's reaction. For patients with poor acceptance, the condition should be kept confidential, and the surrounding patients and family members should be guaranteed to help conceal the actual condition. Concealing the condition is not disrespect for the patient, but to ensure that the patient is emotionally stable and cooperates with the treatment. On the contrary, the pessimism, despair, and resistance generated by the patient after knowing the truth are very unfavorable to the treatment. Therefore, moderate concealment is an important measure of psychological care.

2. Communication

Establish a good nurse-patient relationship, actively communicate with patients, look at problems from the patient's perspective, understand the patient's mood, comfort and care for the patient. Winning the patient's trust and establishing a good nurse-patient relationship is conducive to the development of explanation work. For example, explain to patients the pathogenesis, causes, treatment methods, rational use of drugs and precautions of bone cancer. Explain the treatment methods formulated by doctors to patients so that patients understand the advanced nature of the treatment methods, reduce patients' fear, pessimism, and anxiety, and enhance patients' courage and confidence to overcome the disease. In addition, give patients examples of successful treatment of the disease in the hospital, which is conducive to patients actively cooperating with treatment and care and striving for early recovery.

3. Live in harmony

At work, we should pay more attention to getting along with patients in harmony, encouraging patients, telling them that tumors are not scary and are not incurable, so as to reduce patients' inner fear and anxiety about the disease, face treatment together with patients, and alleviate patients' feelings of loneliness and helplessness.

4. Improve cognition

Improving awareness means raising patients' knowledge of bone cancer and increasing the explanation of professional knowledge about bone cancer so that patients can understand their own condition and avoid being confused and ignorant, and avoid doubts and misunderstandings about medical staff, which is conducive to the development of treatment and helps patients recover as soon as possible.

5. Relatives Interaction

While establishing a good nurse-patient relationship, nursing staff should not ignore the role of the patient's family. Relatives are the most important people in the patient's life. The care and encouragement of relatives can have unexpected effects in the patient's treatment process. Nursing staff should communicate well with the patient's family, do ideological work for them, and let them understand that patients are more sensitive and fragile than before the disease, and need more love and care from their relatives. Family members should give patients careful care and warmth of family affection, help patients face everything optimistically and positively, overcome difficulties together, and fight against bone cancer together.
