Pituitary tumor is a type of tumor disease. So, is pituitary tumor a terminal illness? Let us find out together.

When it comes to tumors, sometimes we are still helpless. In fact, pituitary tumors are a group of tumors that arise from the anterior and posterior pituitary gland and residual cells of the craniopharyngeal epithelium. In recent years, the incidence and mortality of pituitary tumors have also been increasing, which is not unrelated to changes in the environment and the accelerated pace of life.

So will you die from a pituitary tumor? In fact, early pituitary tumors are a type of benign tumor, but if they are not treated in time, they may worsen, which also increases the difficulty in treatment.

Clinical manifestations caused by increased hormone secretion. When the tumor grows above the sella turcica and compresses the optic chiasm, it will manifest as decreased vision and visual field defects. Clinically, patients usually complain of frequent injuries. If the tumor invades the cavernous sinus of the neurovascular plexus around the pituitary gland, there will be symptoms of nerve compression such as ptosis of the upper eyelid and enlarged pupil.

For example, adrenal cortex hypofunction can manifest as decreased appetite, fatigue, weight loss, low blood pressure, low blood sugar, and susceptibility to colds; hypothyroidism can manifest as fear of cold, decreased appetite, rough skin, hair loss, constipation, etc., and in children it can manifest as dementia, growth retardation, etc.; hypogonadism can manifest as male and female infertility, decreased libido, menstrual disorders or even amenorrhea in women, male impotence, etc.; the clinical manifestations of decreased growth hormone secretion can manifest as short stature in children and as body fat concentrated in the abdomen, muscle relaxation and atrophy, aging, decreased self-awareness, osteoporosis, decreased resistance, and decreased sexual function in adults.

In fact, if you have a pituitary tumor, don't worry too much. The problem can be solved by early diagnosis and early treatment. Most pituitary tumor strokes manifest as incomplete or partial pituitary strokes, which may be mild headaches, nausea and vomiting accompanied by general discomfort. No special treatment is required. The patient's symptoms will resolve on their own within a few weeks. The clinical symptoms of some hormone-secreting tumors will be alleviated.
