Symptoms and criteria for osteosarcoma

Early detection of osteosarcoma is key to its treatment. Only when patients know more about the typical symptoms of osteosarcoma can osteosarcoma be discovered early and effectively treated in time. Only in this way can the harm to patients be minimized. So what are the symptom standards of osteosarcoma? Let us learn about it together and hope to give our friends some corresponding help.

1. The course of osteosarcoma varies from a few days to several years from the onset of symptoms to the time of treatment, with an average of 3 to 4 months. The most common site is around the knee joint. The earliest clinical symptom is pain, which is mostly dull and persistent, and the pain worsens after activity. The pain is more obvious at night. A lump appears in the affected area, and the growth rate of the lump is often measured in months. When the lump increases significantly, reactive effusion may occur in the adjacent joints, and joint movement is limited. Early pain often occurs suddenly after a minor injury. The swelling starts mildly and gradually worsens, presenting an eccentric spindle-shaped swelling. The hardness of the lump varies, depending on the texture of the tumor. Osteolytic lesions are softer than osteoblasts. The skin of the affected area is shiny, the surface veins are dilated, and the skin temperature rises. If the tumor is large and adjacent to the joint, it may affect the joint function. Some patients have metastases to other parts when they seek medical treatment.

2. Symptoms in the middle stage include pain, swelling and dysfunction, with pain being the most important symptom. Initially, the pain is intermittent, but becomes severe and persistent after a few weeks. The pain is caused by the erosion and dissolution of the cortical bone by the tumor tissue and the destruction of the periosteum. Lower limb tumors may cause pain-avoiding claudication. As the disease progresses, local swelling and increased surface temperature may occur, and there may be tenderness. The hardness of the tumor varies with the degree of ossification. The enlargement of the tumor causes limited joint movement and disuse muscle atrophy.

3. Late stage symptoms The above symptoms progressively worsen, the pain is unbearable, and painkillers cannot relieve it. The tumor is extremely enlarged, the surface veins are swollen, and fever, weight loss, anemia, fatigue, etc. gradually appear, indicating a cachectic state.

4. Metastatic symptoms Pulmonary metastasis is the most common, followed by bone metastasis. Most cases occur within six months. The size of the tumor may vary depending on the depth of the tumor and the size of the soft tissue invaded by the tumor. The tumor is accompanied by tenderness, and its hardness varies depending on the amount of bone tissue contained in the tumor tissue. When the tumor is large, blood vessels on the skin surface may be dilated.

Above we have introduced to you the symptoms of osteosarcoma. Once you find that you are feeling unwell in your life, you must go to the hospital for examination and treatment in time, especially for some particularly serious diseases. If you intervene in the treatment in the early stage, you can not only win the best treatment time, but also reduce the physical damage caused by the disease to the patient. Finally, I wish my friends good health.
