Which department should I go to in the hospital for melanoma

Malignant melanoma is a tumor produced by melanocytes in the skin and other organs. Clinical symptoms include bleeding, itching, tenderness, ulcers, etc. Generally speaking, the symptoms of melanoma are related to the age of onset. Young patients generally show itching, color changes and enlargement of the lesions, while elderly patients generally show ulcers on the lesions, which usually indicate a poor prognosis.

Which department should I go to when I go to the hospital for melanoma?

You can go to the dermatology department or the oncology department. Early non-metastatic lesions should be surgically removed, and the extent of the normal skin around the lesions should be determined based on the depth. Postoperative adjuvant Chinese medicine treatment can prevent recurrence and metastasis and improve prognosis.

Melanoma is a malignant tumor originating from melanocytes in the pigmented areas of the skin, mucous membranes, eyes and central nervous system. It is a common skin tumor caused by excessive proliferation of abnormal melanocytes. It is highly malignant and accounts for the vast majority of deaths from skin tumors.

Melanoma, also known as malignant melanoma, is a highly malignant tumor that can produce melanin. It is mostly seen in adults over 30 years old. Those that occur on the skin are more common on the soles of the feet, the vulva, and around the anus. It can be malignant from the beginning, but it usually develops from the malignant transformation of a junctional nevus. Any mole that becomes darker in pigment, larger in size, grows faster or ulcerates, becomes inflamed, and bleeds is often a sign of malignant transformation. This tumor can also occur in mucous membranes and internal organs. The tissue structure of melanoma is diverse, and the tumor cells can be arranged in nests, cords, or alveoli.

Tumor cells may be polygonal or spindle-shaped, with large nuclei, often with thick eosinophilic nucleoli, and melanin granules in the cytoplasm. There are also melanomas without melanin granules in the cytoplasm, called amelanotic melanomas, but the DOPA reaction may be positive. Under an electron microscope, it can be seen that the cytoplasm contains a few typical melanosomes or pre-melanosomes, which is helpful for diagnosis. The prognosis of melanoma is mostly poor, and lymphatic and blood metastasis may occur in the late stage. Therefore, early diagnosis and timely treatment of this tumor are very important. Clinically, melanoma is extremely malignant. Most melanomas occur on the basis of pigment lesions, and a few occur in pigment cells of normal skin or mucous membranes.
