Is the probability of recurrence of kidney cancer high?

Is the recurrence rate of kidney cancer high? Many kidney cancer patients believe that surgery will prevent recurrence. In fact, there is a high probability of metastasis after surgery. Below, the editor will introduce to you: Is the recurrence rate of kidney cancer high? What should I do?

Is there a high chance of renal cancer metastasis after surgery? Many renal cancer patients and their families believe that they can rest easy after surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. In fact, this is not the case. According to research, the 5-year survival rate of renal cancer after traditional treatment is about 50%. The 5-year cumulative recurrence rate after radiotherapy for renal cancer is 25%, and the metastasis rate is 22%. Therefore, how to reduce the recurrence rate and metastasis rate of patients, thereby reducing the mortality rate, is the key to improving the survival rate of renal cancer patients. Therefore, renal cancer patients must undergo corresponding consolidation treatment.

Treatments for kidney cancer include:

1. Surgical treatment: For patients with advanced renal cancer who cannot be completely removed by surgery or have metastasized, some medical treatments can be used. Commonly used ones include medroxyprogesterone, interferon and interleukin-2, but the efficacy response is very limited. New targeted therapy drugs such as sunitinib, sorafenib and mTOR blockers that have been introduced in the past two years can effectively prolong the progression-free survival (PFS) of the disease. Existing studies have shown that an improvement of 1-2 months in PFS can improve the patient's overall survival time by 2.5-7.5 months, and can also improve the quality of life during survival.

2. Minimally invasive treatment: Radiofrequency ablation and cryotherapy are performed on smaller renal tumors through skin puncture or laparoscopic puncture under ultrasound guidance. Since this method is truly minimally invasive for renal cancer and its 5-year survival effect is basically similar to that of nephron-sparing surgery, it has become the latest and largest hotspot and direction in the international surgical treatment of small renal cancer.

From the above, we can see that the chance of metastasis after kidney cancer surgery is very high, but patients must not be discouraged by this. They must maintain a good attitude and actively cooperate with the doctor's treatment.
