What are the imaging tests for kidney cancer

The typical patient with renal cancer is a sporadic renal cancer with no family history of malignancy. Such patients, who make up the majority of all renal cancer cases, typically have a solitary, single tumor and tend to develop later in life, most often in patients over 50 years of age. Blood relatives of a patient with renal cancer should be evaluated because they may be at increased risk for developing renal cancer.

They need to regularly use abdominal ultrasound and CT scans to evaluate for kidney cancer. These proactive measures can make a diagnosis early and save the patient's life. If a kidney cancer patient has a gene mutation at a certain site in his gene, his family members should consider genetic testing to find out if they carry this mutated gene, because this may be evidence of familial kidney cancer.
The main manifestations that indicate a patient with kidney tumor may have familial renal cancer include: family history of renal cancer; combined with unexplained renal failure, eye tumors, blindness, and spinal cord or brain tumors; age before 45 when renal cancer occurs; multifocal renal lesions (multiple renal cancer lesions); adrenal tumors and pancreatic tumors associated with renal cancer; multiple skin tags, unexplained pneumothorax, lung cysts, skin erythema, etc. In these cases, familial renal cancer should be considered. For family members of such patients, our professional team recommends that they should actively come to the hospital for screening to prevent problems before they occur.
