Although oysters taste delicious, people should avoid eating them raw. After all, as a kind of aquatic product, there are many parasites in their bodies. If they are not sterilized at high temperature, these parasites can easily harm the human body. The most common way to eat oysters is to grill them, so it is very necessary to master the grilling time when grilling oysters.

How long to grill oysters

Charcoal grilled oysters usually take about 10 minutes. The specific roasting time varies slightly depending on the size of the oysters. Control the time according to the actual situation and your own requirements.

How to tell if oysters are cooked

Although oysters taste best when eaten raw, in real life, eating them raw is a bit risky, so it is recommended to make sure they are cooked before eating. How do you tell if oysters are cooked?

Generally, after you hear a sizzling sound when grilling, turn the oyster meat over, add juice, and grill it for a while. Oysters are usually grilled over charcoal at temperatures of over 100 degrees Celsius, which will mostly kill the bacteria.

How to grill oysters

1. Grill on a regular charcoal grill

(1) Take live oysters and heat them over charcoal fire to kill them first. The shells of oysters will open on their own when they are roasted to death. When it opens, you will hear a "pop" sound, just like a shell being opened.

(2) Open the oysters, shave off the oyster meat with a knife, and wash them in clean water. Wash half of the shell separately and use it as a container. It takes a little effort to open the shell. Be careful not to get scratched by the oyster shell. Some oysters are harder to peel, so you can gently smash them on the ground first.

(3) Put the cleaned oyster meat back into the shell, add 5 ml of cooking oil and grill over charcoal fire. When you see the oil bubbling, you can add beer.

(4) Add 15 ml of beer (depending on the size of the oysters, the bottle should be about half full). Add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic and 5 ml of oyster sauce. Continue heating until the beer boils. Beer can remove the fishy smell of oysters and make them more tender.

(5) Use chopsticks to turn the oyster meat over and continue heating for 3 minutes. This ensures that both sides are well seasoned and cooked through.

2. Simple home-style oven baking method

(1) Use a brush to carefully clean the oyster shells and rinse the oyster meat with clean water to remove any mud or sand. Peel the garlic and chop it into minced garlic. Cut the wild pepper into rings for later use.

(2) Put an appropriate amount of vegetable oil (the same amount as the garlic) in a non-stick pan and fry the minced garlic over low heat until it is fragrant and slightly golden (use low heat and keep stirring with a spatula to prevent the minced garlic from burning). Drain the fried minced garlic along with the oil, let it cool, and add salt and chicken essence according to your taste. It should be slightly saltier than usual.

(3) Add appropriate amount of oil and stir-fry the chili rings for a while.

(4) Place tin foil on the baking tray, put a grill on top, and then place the cleaned oysters on top, making sure they are stable. Then sprinkle some pepper on each oyster and spread it evenly (if you like strong flavors, you can sprinkle some salt on them. Some people prefer the umami flavor, so I didn’t add any salt).

(5) Spread the minced garlic and chili rings on the oyster meat and marinate for 10 minutes to allow the salt flavor to penetrate into the oyster meat.

(6) Place the oysters in the lower oven and bake for about 20 minutes (do not turn on the upper oven) until the oyster meat shrinks slightly.

(7) Bake for 1-2 minutes over low heat until the minced garlic turns yellow (if your oven does not have high and low heat, you can cover the oysters with a piece of tin foil to prevent them from burning).
