Can breast cancer patients get pregnant after surgery?

Can breast cancer patients get pregnant after surgery? Although there is no evidence that having children will affect the prognosis of breast cancer patients, when choosing whether and when to have children, the risk of disease recurrence and the impact of treatment on offspring must be fully considered, and sufficient communication with the patient is also required.

(1) Patients with breast carcinoma in situ can consider having children after completing surgery and radiotherapy.

(2) Patients with node-negative invasive breast cancer may consider having children 2 years after surgery.

(3) Patients with invasive breast cancer with positive lymph nodes may consider having children 5 years after surgery.

(4) For patients who need adjuvant endocrine therapy, endocrine therapy (such as Noradrenaline, tamoxifen or toremifene, etc.) should be stopped 3 months before conception, and endocrine therapy can be continued after breastfeeding ends.

Breast cancer does not affect the patient's fertility, but the timing must be chosen well. Generally, the peak of breast cancer recurrence is one and a half to two years after surgery, and these patients are advised to miss this time. Because some auxiliary treatments, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy may be performed in the first year, it is not appropriate to have children at this time, but the peak of recurrence is one and a half to two years. After this time, if there is no sign of recurrence two years later, you can consider having children. If breast cancer is in the late stage, the risk in the future is very high. At this time, comprehensive considerations are needed, and pregnancy needs to be cautious, weighing the pros and cons. There is also a view that it takes more than five years without any problems before considering pregnancy.
