Coughing up blood is a common symptom of lung cancer. So why do lung cancer patients have symptoms of coughing up blood? In lung cancer patients, the tumor blocks the passage of gas and irritates the bronchial wall.

Lung cancer patients, due to the relationship between the tumor, blocked the passage of gas, stimulate the bronchial wall, so that the trachea will have a reaction to expel foreign bodies, resulting in coughing, sometimes coughed up sputum with blood, which is what we call hemoptysis; in addition, some Chinese medicine believes that the cause of lung cancer hemoptysis is due to injury to the lung network, causing blood from the lung to cough out through the airway, or pure blood, or sputum and blood, or sputum with blood. External evil attacking the lungs, phlegm and blood blocking the lungs, liver fire attacking the lungs, lung and kidney yin deficiency, qi deficiency and other causes all lead to damage to the lung network, lung qi upward, and blood overflowing the airway.

The blood coughed up by lung cancer patients usually comes from the bronchi or alveoli. The coughed up blood does not contain food residues. When there is a tumor in the lungs, it will cause local inflammation of the lung tissue, increase the permeability of the capillaries, and blood will flow into the respiratory tract; or the tumor compresses the microvessels and causes the blood vessels to rupture, which can also cause coughing up blood. Coughing up blood is one of the clinical manifestations of many diseases. In addition to lung cancer, other diseases that may occur include bronchitis, pneumonia, lung abscess, tuberculosis, bronchiectasis, etc.

When lung cancer patients cough up blood, they should seek medical attention immediately and provide the doctor with information about the coughing up blood (when the coughing up blood began, the color and the amount of blood) for the doctor's reference in treatment. The doctor may decide whether to hospitalize the patient based on the amount of blood coughed up by the patient, and will prescribe some hemostatic drugs for the patient to take. If the patient bleeds more, you should be more careful because blood clots may block the respiratory tract, causing respiratory suffocation or respiratory failure. At this time, the doctor may do some examinations to find the bleeding point; bronchoscopes or laser treatments may also be used to help stop bleeding. In addition to emergency measures, lung cancer patients who cough up blood should also pay attention to diet in their daily lives. Patients without dysphagia should eat more foods rich in protein and carbohydrates, such as lean meat, duck, rabbit, fish, shrimp, soy products and various cereals, without affecting treatment. The diet should not be too greasy, but light, regular, quantitative, and small meals should be eaten frequently to reduce the burden on the gastrointestinal tract. Eat more foods containing vitamins A, C and E to reduce bleeding.
