What are the dangers of having brain cancer

The incidence of brainstem tumors accounts for 1% to 2% of intracranial tumors; in children, it accounts for 7% to 15%. Due to the application of high-resolution CT and MRI and the development of microsurgery, people have greatly improved their understanding of brainstem tumors. Related studies have shown that brainstem space-occupying lesions account for 2.7% of intracranial tumors surgically treated during the same period. So what are the dangers of having brain cancer?

1. Blindness: Not many people go blind suddenly due to brain tumors. Often, vision loss occurs first. If it is not treated promptly and effectively, it will gradually develop into blindness. Some children, and even a few ordinary people, ignore the vision loss on one side, and the doctor finds that one eye is already blind when checking.
2. Epilepsy: The incidence rate is about 30% of brain tumors. It is mostly caused by direct stimulation or compression of the tumor. The seizure type is often localized, but it can also be a major seizure. The seizure is related to the location and nature of the tumor. For example, tumors in the motor area and its vicinity have a higher incidence of epilepsy.
3. Mental disorder: It can be caused by progressive increase in intracranial pressure, or it can be the result of compression and destruction of the brain substance by tumors. The general symptoms in the early stage are more severe, manifested as apathy, dullness, memory and comprehension impairment, etc. As intracranial pressure continues to increase, mental symptoms become more obvious, such as dementia, blurred consciousness, changes in personality and behavior, etc.
4. Paralysis: mostly hemiplegia. The incidence is higher in patients with tumors located near the motor area of the brain, the basal ganglia, and the ventral side of the brainstem. It starts as mild paralysis, gradually develops into severe paralysis and even complete paralysis. Hemiplegia is accompanied by other manifestations, such as symptoms of high intracranial pressure.
