The harm of food pollution to human body

Nowadays, food contamination has become a very common phenomenon and an increasingly serious problem. Food is a product that we cannot live without, and food pollution will undoubtedly have a great impact on our lives. There are many reasons for food contamination, such as chemical pollution and biological pollution. So, what are the hazards of food pollution to the human body?

Food itself should not contain toxic or harmful substances. However, due to environmental or human factors, food may be contaminated by toxic and harmful substances at each stage of its planting or breeding, growth, harvesting or slaughtering, processing, storage, transportation, sales and before consumption, thereby reducing the nutritional value and hygienic quality of the food. This process is food contamination.

Characteristics of food contamination:

Food contamination is becoming increasingly serious and widespread, with chemical contamination accounting for the main cause.

When pollutants are transferred from one organism to another, their concentration can continue to accumulate and increase, which is called bioaccumulation. Even a slight pollution process can cause serious harm to the human body after bioaccumulation.

The hazards caused by food contamination today, in addition to acute toxic effects, are mostly chronic toxic effects. Due to long-term intake of small amounts and a long biological half-life, food contaminants have an effect on DNA in the body.

The harm of food pollution to human body:

Affects the sensory properties of food;

Cause acute food poisoning;

Cause acute and chronic harm to the body;

Teratogenic, mutagenic and carcinogenic effects in humans.

Hazards of biological pollution: causing spoilage of animal food; infectious diseases in humans; and microbial poisoning. Hazards of chemical pollution: acute and chronic poisoning; mutagenicity; teratogenicity and carcinogenicity.
