In what situations do you need a tooth filling

Nowadays, too many people do not have a healthy oral care method. Many people always eat snacks before going to bed and do not have the habit of brushing their teeth before going to bed, which leads to bacterial growth and tooth decay. Clinically, two types of teeth require minor filling surgery, one is caries, and the other is missing teeth. Teeth after filling have a certain service life. The best way to reduce trouble is to protect the original teeth. The following is some additional information about tooth fillings, let’s take a look.

Two situations where you need a filling

1. Tooth decay

The hard tissue of the teeth decalcifies, softens, and is destroyed, eventually forming cavities. Tooth decay is divided into three levels: shallow caries, moderate caries, and deep caries. When tooth decay is very shallow and there are no symptoms, dental treatment is very simple and only requires filling the cavity.

2. Missing Teeth

In addition to affecting appearance, missing teeth also affect chewing function, increase gastrointestinal burden, and thus affect physical health. Therefore, a tooth filling is needed in this case.

Things to note when filling a tooth

1. First of all, on the day of the filling, it is best not to eat food on the side with the filling, because the filling material cannot harden immediately and it takes some time to harden. If a filling breaks or becomes loose, you must go to the hospital for a check-up as soon as possible. Do not ignore it just because it does not hurt. Otherwise, the cavity will continue to get bigger and you will eventually experience toothache.

2. For teeth that have just been filled, you must take necessary care in time and follow the doctor's instructions. You can chew food with the affected side on the 2nd or 3rd day after the filling, but do not bite hard food.

3. There may be slight pain after filling a tooth. The patient can observe it first, because a lot of pain can be relieved and disappear by itself. If the pain continues to worsen or if there is also biting pain, throbbing pain, pain with hot or cold stimulation, and spontaneous pain at night, you should go to the dentist for a follow-up visit as soon as possible.

4. For teeth with severe caries, after tooth restoration, the tooth resistance decreases, so it is easy for the tooth to break when biting. Therefore, a crown needs to be installed for protection after the filling.
