How esophageal cancer metastasizes to laryngeal cancer

How does esophageal cancer metastasize? Metastasis of esophageal cancer is usually a symptom that appears in the late stage of esophageal cancer. The metastasis of esophageal cancer is generally divided into three types: general metastasis, hemorrhagic metastasis and bone metastasis. Let us learn about the relevant content one by one.

Next, let's look at lymph node metastasis: Lymphatic metastasis of the esophagus is common, accounting for about 2/3 of the cases. It usually occurs early and is mainly seen in the paraesophageal lymph nodes, hilar lymph nodes, supraclavicular lymph nodes and cardia lymph nodes. Metastasis is more common in poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma and undifferentiated carcinoma. The metastatic site is related to the direction of esophageal lymphatic drainage. Upper esophageal cancer can invade the paraesophageal, posterior laryngeal, deep neck and supraclavicular lymph nodes. If hoarseness occurs, it is mostly due to compression of the recurrent laryngeal nerve by the metastatic lymph nodes. Middle esophageal cancer often metastasizes to the paraesophageal or hilar lymph nodes, and can also metastasize upward or downward.

Experts say that bone metastasis of esophageal cancer is one of the sites where distant metastasis may occur in the late stage, and its incidence increases with the extension of survival. Bone metastasis of esophageal cancer in the late stage may not be the cause of death of patients in the late stage, but the complications it causes are very fatal. Bone metastasis of esophageal cancer can cause clinical manifestations such as multiple bone pain and pathological fractures in patients, which is one of the main reasons for the greatly reduced quality of life of patients with advanced esophageal cancer. At present, the treatment of bone metastasis of esophageal cancer in clinical practice mostly adopts palliative treatment, mainly Western medical radiotherapy and drug therapy. The purpose of radiotherapy for bone metastasis of esophageal cancer is mainly to relieve bone pain symptoms and reduce the risk of pathological fractures. Its methods include external irradiation and radionuclide therapy.

Hematogenous metastasis: Hematogenous metastasis of esophageal cancer often occurs in the late stage of esophageal cancer and is rare. It mainly occurs in the liver and lungs, followed by bones, kidneys, adrenal glands and pleura. Lymphatic metastasis: It is a common way of metastasis of esophageal cancer. The metastatic site is related to the drainage direction of esophageal lymph. Upper segment cancer can involve paraesophageal, posterior laryngeal, deep neck and supraclavicular lymph nodes; discontinuous cancer often metastasizes to paraesophageal or hilar lymph nodes, and can also metastasize downward or upward; while lower segment cancer often invades pericardial and abdominal lymph nodes, and occasionally lower segment cancer can be seen metastasizing to the upper mediastinum or supraclavicular lymph nodes. The expert finally said that it is generally believed that lymphatic metastasis of esophageal cancer is more common in poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma or undifferentiated carcinoma of the esophagus.

What are the ways in which esophageal cancer metastasizes? I hope that through the above introduction, everyone can understand the three ways in which esophageal cancer metastasizes. At the same time, patients in the late stage of esophageal cancer should not be discouraged and should actively receive treatment.
