Pathological types of breast cancer

Pathological types of breast cancer

The pathological types of breast cancer are:

(1) Non-invasive cancer: including intraductal carcinoma (cancer cells have not broken through the basement membrane of the duct wall), lobular carcinoma in situ (cancer cells have not broken through the basement membrane of the terminal milk duct or acinus) and nipple eczematoid breast cancer. This type is in the early stage and has a good prognosis.

(2) Early invasive cancer: refers to cancer with an invasive component of less than 10%. It includes early invasive ductal carcinoma (cancer cells break through the basement membrane of the duct wall and begin to infiltrate the stroma) and early invasive lobular carcinoma (cancer cells break through the basement membrane of the terminal milk duct or acinar and begin to infiltrate the stroma, but are still confined to the lobule). This type is still in the early stage and has a good prognosis.

(3) Invasive special cancers: including papillary carcinoma, medullary carcinoma (with a large number of lymphocyte infiltration), tubular carcinoma (well-differentiated adenocarcinoma), adenoid cystic carcinoma, mucinous adenocarcinoma, cardiac adenoid carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, etc. This type of cancer is generally highly differentiated and has a good prognosis.

(4) Invasive non-special cancer: including invasive lobular carcinoma, invasive ductal carcinoma, scirrhous carcinoma, medullary carcinoma (without a large number of lymphocyte infiltration), simple carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, etc. This type is generally poorly differentiated and has a worse prognosis than the above types. It is the most common type of breast cancer, accounting for 80%, but the prognosis still needs to be combined with factors such as disease staging to determine the prognosis.
