The risk of colon cancer caused by factors such as smoking, drinking and obesity is higher for women

Colon cancer is caused by high animal fat, animal protein, energy and low fiber; lack of trace elements such as selenium, zinc, iron, magnesium and vitamins A, C, E; dietary factors such as eating pickled fish, pickled meat and fried foods; genetic factors such as familial adenomatous polyposis and hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer; precancerous changes such as colorectal adenoma, ulcerative colitis, polyposis; unhealthy lifestyle and some negative events in life, such as the death of relatives, family discord, and interpersonal tension. This is the case for both male and female colon cancer. However, there are also some factors that have a greater impact on the incidence of colon cancer in women, such as tobacco, alcohol, and obesity.

Smoking and drinking

Some researchers have found that among female colorectal cancer patients, the onset age of female smokers is 6.3 years earlier than that of women who neither smoke nor drink, while the corresponding time difference in men is only 3.7 years.

obesity

In premenopausal women, obesity (body mass index ≥ 30 kg/m2) can double the risk of colon cancer.

Menstrual status

Postmenopausal women have a higher risk of developing colon cancer than premenopausal women.

Advanced adenoma

Literature reports that advanced adenomas can transform into colon cancer, and among smokers and/or obese people, women, especially young women, are more likely to develop advanced adenomas than men.
