Several types of surgery for epilepsy caused by brain cancer

As the disease progresses, brain cancer patients may suffer from epileptic seizures, leading to various disorders of consciousness and behavior. Severe epilepsy can be relieved through further surgery. Generally, different surgical treatment methods are used for lesions in different brain locations, which can be divided into the following surgical treatments.

1. Cortical lesion resection: mainly for patients whose lesions are in the brain functional area or adjacent areas, or whose brain functions have been damaged and are difficult to recover through treatment.

2. Anterior temporal lobectomy: for patients whose epileptic lesions are limited to the anterior temporal part of one side and whose scalp EEG shows epileptic discharges. 3. Hemispheric cortical resection: for patients with intractable epileptic seizures, whose symptoms are difficult to relieve with conventional drug treatment, or who have multiple epileptogenic lesions in the affected cerebral hemisphere or even the entire hemisphere.

4. Combined brain amputation: It is used for patients whose epileptic foci are mainly located in the cerebral hemispheres, whose main symptom is epilepsy caused by brain cancer, which lasts for a long time and is difficult to control with drug treatment.

5. Stereotactic epilepsy surgery: For patients with severe mental and behavioral disorders, various drug treatments are not effective.

6. Cerebellar electrical stimulation therapy for epilepsy: for patients with long-term epileptic seizures whose types of seizures include tonic-clonic seizures (grand mal seizures), myoclonic seizures and petit mal seizures.
