Left shoulder pain for half a year before being diagnosed with bone cancer

Li Chao, a 12-year-old boy, had been suffering from pain in his left shoulder blade for nearly half a year, but the pain was intermittent. He reported the pain to adults when he was in pain, but his parents were busy with work and never took the issue seriously. It was not until one day that Li Chao’s mother found a lump in her son’s left shoulder blade that she rushed to see a doctor.

After detailed inquiries, the orthopedic doctor of the hospital performed an MRI examination on Li Chao. The diagnosis report showed that there was an abnormal signal shadow centered on the scapula in the left shoulder, abnormalities in the scapula bone marrow cavity, partial destruction of the bone cortex, and an abnormal mass in the cyclic muscle group. The size of the lesion was 4.5cm*7.8cm*7.3cm. The radiological diagnosis result was that the mass on the left shoulder originated from the scapula and was very likely to be a malignant tumor. However, due to equipment and doctor experience issues, it was impossible to make a judgment. It was recommended that Li Chao's parents take him to a large hospital for diagnosis.

Later, in order to confirm the condition, Li Chao's parents took him to the city's cancer hospital for further diagnosis. Afterwards, enhanced scanning and tissue biopsy were performed, and the results showed that it was Ewing sarcoma.

The doctor then developed a treatment plan for Li Chao based on his condition. Taking into account that the tumor lesion was large and there were metabolic abnormalities in the left joints, scapula and left humeral head, chemotherapy was given first, followed by resection after radiotherapy, and then chemotherapy after resection.

Li Chao is still undergoing treatment. His parents feel extremely regretful that they should not have neglected their son's health due to their busy work.
