Key points for skin cancer treatment

Skin cancer can be caused by ultraviolet damage, X-rays and thermal radiation, frequent contact with chemicals, etc. Although the incidence of skin cancer in my country is relatively low, it is a highly malignant cancer and should be actively intervened and treated once diagnosed.

For skin cancer patients, choosing the right treatment method should not only be based on the histological type of skin cancer, but also on the anatomical location of the cancer, the patient's age, gender, general health status and other factors. These include the following treatment points:

Key point 1: Pay attention to whether the anatomical location of the cancer is in an area prone to recurrence after surgery, whether the treatment can achieve the expected effect, etc. For example, areas around the eye sockets, nose, and ears have a high recurrence rate after surgery, so a treatment with a higher cure rate must be selected.

Point 2: Before performing surgical excision, one should also consider the cosmetic appearance of the wound at the anatomical site and the function of the skin after excision. For example, after the surgical healing of the protruding parts of the face: nose, lips, cheeks, forehead, and ear helix, the scar will be tight and unacceptable. Therefore, the facial protruding parts and damaged functional parts should be prepared with flaps and skin transplants.

Point 3: The patient's health condition should be considered comprehensively. If there is a coagulation disorder or anticoagulant treatment, non-bleeding treatment methods must be used, such as cryotherapy, CO2 laser, radiotherapy, etc. For some elderly and frail female patients who cannot tolerate long-term radiotherapy, curettage and electrodesiccation can be used, or surgical radical resection can be applied.
