Radical prostatectomy for patients with early prostate cancer

If prostate cancer is detected in its early stages, it can be treated with a radical prostatectomy.

The so-called radical prostatectomy refers to a surgery that removes the prostate gland and some surrounding tissues. The surgery can remove the prostate cancer lesions and the surrounding tissues that may be diseased.

There are currently two commonly used surgical methods. One is the traditional open surgery, in which the doctor makes a longitudinal incision in the patient's lower abdomen to reach the prostate position for resection, and then re-anastomoses the bladder and urethra after the resection. The other method is to complete the surgery through laparoscopy, in which the doctor makes a small incision in the patient's lower abdomen that allows the laparoscope to enter the human body, and completes the operation through the laparoscope, thereby reducing harm to the patient.

Radical resection has a good therapeutic effect on patients with early prostate cancer. Pathological examination of surgically removed specimens can clarify the scope of cancer invasion and pathological stage, thereby helping doctors to formulate subsequent treatment plans. Radical treatment can enable patients to achieve a better prognosis and effectively increase their survival time.

However, surgery also has certain risks, mainly including postoperative urinary incontinence and sexual dysfunction. Generally, patients can gradually recover within 1 year, some patients need a longer time, and some patients will have persistent urinary incontinence after surgery, which can be treated with surgery.
